Yesterday I decided that it had been a
good long time since I’d been hiking, so I decided to go to the Superstitions. Unfortunately, as usually happens, I procrastinated long enough that instead of getting there around noon like I was hoping, I got there around 3pm or so, just in time for the rain to show up.
I took some pictures and then drove down the Apache Trail to Tortilla Flat. In Tortilla Flat I had a little Killer Chili and then tried to drive up to Roosevelt Dam, but the road was flooding and closed. I think the XTerra could have made it, but decided that discretion was the better part of valor and went home.
So, what’s Killer Chili?
It’s just the name of the chili they serve at Tortilla Flat. They serve it with a tortilla to help soak up some of the heat, but it is fairly spicy. I wouldn’t say it was “Killer”, but it is fairly hot and spicy. Not Los Dos Molinos though.
BTW, I had to write the Wikipedia entries for Apache Trail AND Tortilla Flat…
And reading the one for Apache Trail, I realize that it sucks. But I wrote it in like 5 minutes… I guess that is what Wiki is for 🙂
