Well, it’s been a couple of weeks, so I figured I’d write a brief something. I’m also putting up some pictures of Bella, our Bedlington terrier.
Last night Christi and I watched Lost in Translation. I hadn’t paid too much attention to it when it came out, except to watch as Bill Murray got pissed when the Academy ignored him again (sorry Bill, you ARE the man). However, somewhere I happened to read that it was set in Japan and about being “Lost in Translation”, and since I go to Japan all the time I figured I’d check it out and see if it got things right. Amazingly enough it does. Darn near 100%. It is a funnily poignant movie about the loneliness and stress one goes through when one is in a totally foreign country all by oneself. It also has a sort of love story between Bill Murray and Scarlett Johansson, who are both married to people that they don’t really seem to love anymore and who (conveniently) happen to not be around.
Murray is hilarious in poking fun at Engrish and how hard it sometimes is to do business with the Japanese when you don’t really understand everything they are saying. Anyway, it is both funny and sad, but definitely worth seeing. Two thumbs up.
