En Nippon Again

Yes, once again I am in Japan. Trip number 14. I flew into Narita this time instead of Kansai since it matched my work travel plans better. The flight over was relatively ok. I think I am getting inured to this 11 hour flying stuff, as sad as that is. Of course, that last 2 hours is always a bitch, no matter what you do. One bit of excitement…about 3.5 hours out of SFO, a Japanese guy collapsed in the aisle of the plane, right next to my row. They did the whole “If there is a medical doctor on the flight, please contact the stewardess” thing and of course on a 747 going to Japan, there was a doctor. At first I thought the stewardess said the guy didn’t have a pulse, but obviously I misheard, because the guy eventually got up and was moved to a stewardess seat for the doctor to examine him. Long story short, the doctor spent about an hour with the guy and in the end he went back to his seat and we went on to Tokyo. Due to the vagaries of business meetings, I got most of Monday off, so I grabbed a train to Kamakura for a few hours just to see it. For those who do not know, Kamakura was the capital of Japan for about one hundred years starting around 1192 AD when the first Shogun took temporal power from the Emperor. I think I have seen most of the major historical centers of Japan now. I put up the pics from Kamakura in the gallery. Share and enjoy!

Some of those pictures are awesome, including the giant sandles! 🙂 So, did the sign by the Koi pond at the Hase Temple say, “Those who take photographs of our koi forfeit their lives” ?

Hehe. The Daibutsu looks somewhat eerie. Like a fossilized ICBM.
