Tokyo and Flying

I am on the plane again, but this time is quite a bit more comfortable than last time. After a predictable last day trip to Akihabara, Boyd and I headed for Narita on the Narita Express. We got there fairly early, which was great, because United said the flight to SFO was full and they wanted to put me on the LAX flight. I said sure, but what benefit do I of it? After standing in front of the counter for literally a half hour, they put me in Business class for the LAX flight. It is hard to describe how much better Business class is than coach. It is like the difference between being below the povery line and being well off I guess. In coach for 9 hours is hell. You can barely move and you are packed in on top of each other like sardines. In Business class, you have almost as much space as you want as well as having your own personal TV. The seats recline like crazy and have foot rests and lumbar controls and god knows what else. There are about as many stewardesses to take care of you 50 people (or so) as all of coach has. Dinner is filet mignon and champagne, and the steak is as good as any I’ve had on the ground, versus coach, which may be food, but if you aren’t starving, I’m not sure you’d care to eat it 🙂 Anyway, I was real happy to get business class.

In other news, it was my distinct disappointment to learn that AsoBitCity has moved from their giant store in Akihabara to another, smaller store. They no longer have any airsoft stuff and now are just decent versus being incredibly amazingly cool… sigh.

Movies this flight are: Paycheck (a Ben Afleck adaptation of a Philip K. Dick novel, which wasn’t bad), Along Came Polly (Ben Stiller) and Love Actually. Not a bad selection “actually”… but not as good as Lost in Translation 🙂

Update: Added all the latest Japan photos to the gallery.
