One last post before I’m off to Wimbledon.
I saw this movie on a JAL flight last year to Tokyo. It was great. However, it took me until a few weeks ago to be able to find out what the movie was called since all the titles, etc were in Japanese. I finally did. It is “Mibu Gishi Den” (aka When the Last Sword is Drawn… not sure if that is a direct translation or not.. anyone know?). Long story short, I now want this DVD 🙂 I could order it from Japan, but I will be back again in August, so I guess I will wait until then and buy it over there. Anyway, if you get a chance to watch this movie, do. It is a poignant story of the last of the samurai during the Meiji period. It does a good job at showing the human side of the samurai in a way that Hollywood fare like “The Last Samurai” just don’t.
